The Draconian Thumb of Leadership

Not all leadership can be terrible. Leaders can inspire and help their people to work hard. Most of the time, the ability to create hard workers come from well-set and defined parameters. If they cannot work in a well-defined framework, then there are two issues:

  1. You didn’t set the guidelines well enough for them to follow.
  2. The criterion was too vague and didn’t provide enough direction for them to follow.

Currently, I feel like I am experiencing this with not only one of my teachers but with work as well. Our teacher not only said all the students in the class are behind but said we didn’t understand his parameters. I am calling this a lack of leadership and criterion. Not only did he not give us enough direction, but he also left us scratching our head while we try to determine the meaning of his words. My leadership at work is in a similar boat. It is because of their leadership, whose criteria was to construct a training curriculum by not using the old curriculum. They are in quite an enigma as they cannot create a curriculum if they have no knowledge or experience with the previous curriculum. In both situations, leaders both in school and work are enforcing an idea that isn’t well thought out. The consequences of these actions are confusion, frustration, annoyance, and anger, which lead to bad grades or angry underlings. So, Establish Parameters, Give Needed Direction, and most of all Build Trust to build those around you. You will be surprised by the result.
