I am shocked by this idea of cancel culture. I have never seen that perspective or even knew that existed. To me, a cancel culture seems like a mob mentality to a certain extent. A mob doesn’t want to understand the other perspective. A mass of people decides that it is not acceptable and seeks to remove it from society. I believe most of this comes from suspicion and misunderstanding of a topic or idea. One example is“How to train your dragon.” Hiccup is rejected and shunned by his tribe for new ideas that were to help him become one of them. He is shunned even more when they learn of his friendship with a dragon. This show ultimately has a happy ending, but it seems to be an exception more than the rule. Other examples of it in our history is the persecution of “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” Nazi Germany, and so many other instances throughout time. What we haven’t learned as a society is that disagreement will exist. One cannot justify their actions to destroy or attack another human being. As a society, we are becoming more tolerant of such violent acts and riots to make a change. It makes me think of what Yoda once said about the dark side, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” All sides suffer when anger and a lust for power or control over another person are involved. The sad thing is it only takes one person who feels justified to hurt another person to divide a country. What I say is learn how to address concerns with other people and do it suitably and not savagely or aggressively. Learn to counsel and not to bicker. Be a positive change.
